Rickenbacker Causeway 20-Inch Water

Design Build

Project Overview

The Old Rickenbacker Bridge Water Main Installation project highlights David Mancini & Sons, Inc. (DMSI)’s expertise in advanced horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and large-diameter water main construction in sensitive marine and bridge environments.

Commissioned by the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department, this project involved the installation of approximately 4,000 linear feet of 20-inch high-density polyethylene (HDPE) water main along the south side of the Old Rickenbacker Bridge. The alignment was executed beneath active bridge infrastructure using HDD techniques to ensure precision, durability, and minimal environmental disruption.

In addition to the new installation, DMSI provided comprehensive design and construction services, including the furnishing and installation of all pipe and fittings, fusion welding and pressure testing of the HDPE, and the safe removal of the existing 12-inch water main previously located under the old bridge. Every phase was performed with strict adherence to safety, quality, and environmental standards, maintaining seamless operation across one of Miami’s busiest coastal transportation routes.

The objectives are to streamline processes, maximize resource utilization, and deliver measurable outcomes that create long-term value. By leveraging our technical skills, proven experience, and commitment to excellence, we aim to not only meet but exceed expectations. Communication and transparency will remain at the core of the project, fostering trust and alignment at every step.

Ultimately, this project represents an opportunity to showcase our capabilities while building a foundation for sustained success and future growth.

This project demonstrates DMSI’s ability to integrate design, engineering, and construction excellence within complex marine and bridge environments. Through innovative HDD methodology and precise execution, DMSI successfully enhanced Miami-Dade County’s water transmission infrastructure — ensuring long-term reliability, safety, and service continuity for the community.
