FPL Duct Bank Protection & Stormwater Pump Station Construction
The FPL Duct Bank Protection and Stormwater Pump Station Construction project showcases David Mancini & Sons, Inc. (DMSI)’s advanced engineering and construction capabilities in deep-shaft utility design and heavy civil infrastructure within densely developed urban environments.
This project required DMSI to perform complex underground utility construction while protecting existing Florida Power & Light (FPL) primary duct banks that serve the entire City of Miami Beach. To determine the safest and most effective design approach, DMSI conducted precision exposure of the active FPL duct banks, allowing for accurate assessment and safe placement of a 35-foot-deep construction shaft.
Following this stage, DMSI installed two new stormwater pump stations for the City of Miami Beach. Each station featured a fully integrated system including a diversion box, dissipater box, wet well, grate box, (3) junction boxes, drainage defender box, 72-inch reinforced concrete pipe, and four Flygt CP 3501 pumps. The project also encompassed stormwater collection and disposal systems, tide flex valves, mechanical piping, electrical control panels, and extensive site concrete work such as thrust blocks, foundation slabs, and appurtenances.
Through strategic planning, precise engineering, and exceptional field coordination, DMSI ensured full protection of vital electrical infrastructure while enhancing the City’s drainage and flood control systems.
The objectives are to streamline processes, maximize resource utilization, and deliver measurable outcomes that create long-term value. By leveraging our technical skills, proven experience, and commitment to excellence, we aim to not only meet but exceed expectations. Communication and transparency will remain at the core of the project, fostering trust and alignment at every step.
Ultimately, this project represents an opportunity to showcase our capabilities while building a foundation for sustained success and future growth.
- Deep-shaft construction design (35 feet) performed adjacent to live FPL primary duct banks serving the entire City of Miami Beach.
- Installation of two complete stormwater pump stations, each equipped with Flygt CP 3501 axial flow pumps and full mechanical integration.
- Comprehensive stormwater infrastructure, including diversion boxes, wet wells, junction boxes, tide flex valves, and reinforced concrete piping.
- Extensive site concrete and electrical work, forming new foundation slabs, thrust blocks, and mechanical support structures.
This project reflects DMSI’s unmatched ability to combine engineering precision, utility protection, and large-scale stormwater infrastructure development in highly sensitive environments. By safeguarding Miami Beach’s electrical lifelines while constructing new drainage assets, DMSI continues to lead in urban resilience and civil infrastructure innovation across South Florida.
